MASTER PRINCIPLES OF ACCOUNTS BASICS
For struggling students to master POA basic double entries and jump at least one grade within 3 months.
Let’s face it – growing up, you are probably armed with a study method that looks something like this:
WRONG. SO WRONG
Read on, if your child is like most struggling students, he/she:
If any of these sound familiar, that’s because this is how many students view accounting.
They allow their fears and doubts to hold them back from reaching their full potential to excel in POA.
That’s a huge mistake, and I’m going to tell you why.
One of the biggest regrets of a working adult is that they wish they understood some kind of accounting and financial literacy in order to impress their bosses and boost their career chances or to be able to read financial statements in order to invest well.
In fact, the greatest investor in the world, Warren Buffet can be quoted saying this about the importance of understanding POA:
“You have to understand accounting and you have to understand the nuances of accounting. It’s the language of business… but unless you are willing to put in the effort to learn accounting – how to read and interpret financial statements – you really shouldn’t select stocks yourself”
Hear me out. If your child only has one chance at the GCE O/N level exams – this is it.
If he/she is frustrated with the memorising and never get to master accounting basics to excel for exams, imagine how it will be like 10, 20 years from now when he/she is frustrated at work with no other options due to financial illiteracy and worse still, be haunted by the memories of hatred towards POA.
The only way things will change is if your child has the courage to try something different
I can help with that, which is why I want you to read this very carefully, all the way to the end.
I promise it will be worth it because I know that it will help your child:
Your child just need a guide, a teacher, someone who knows the nuances of double entries and able to explain it to them in an age-appropriate manner, so he/she doesn’t:
hi, my name is Caleb and I've been teaching since I was 18... way back in 2002.
I’ve taught several subjects – from English to Math in primary and secondary school levels, as well as my all-time favourite subject – Principles of Accounts (POA)
I love what I do, which is why I only focus on teaching this subject since 2008.
Every single year, for the past 12 years, 80% to 100% of the students I’ve coached privately jumped at least 3 grades for POA within 6 months.. Most of them come to me with a fail or borderline pass grade.
It’s no ‘stroke of luck’. I use a proven system. You see, when I was an accounting undergrad student in Nanyang Technological University, I struggled greatly as POA was a totally new subject to me. It didn’t help that I had absolutely no background in accounting and that I couldn’t understand my lecturer who was teaching rapidly to cover the curriculum.
I did excel in modules where logic and analysis were required and less on memorising, skills I picked up as a humanities student in Anglo Chinese Junior College. These skills served me well when I ran an accounting outsourcing firm explaining and interpreting accounts to non-accounting trained small business owners in the day and tutoring struggling POA students in the evenings.
When I started teaching full time, I strove to impart those skills to my students. Over time, I developed a simple and doable system to help my students improve their POA grades in a shorter, easier and more painless way.
Anna Naveen's Story
When I first started POA in secondary 3 it seemed very foreign to me I would often be lost when my teacher would be teaching in class and I would always be catching up on class work at home . It was very tedious studying POA as I was always one step behind the teacher so I ended up memorising the double entries and concepts .
Doing so got me barely scraping through tests and exams, leaving me discouraged and wanting to give up . One day when I was cramping up for my mid year examinations at the library with my friend, Simran. Seeing me so distraught she rendered help. I was amazed at her understanding of the topic as she had explained to me in very clear and concise manner out of curiosity I asked how she did it . She told me that she tried understand concept rather than memorising them and she told me that she extensively used Master Principles of Accounts study guide when revising for her tests and exams.
That changed my perspective on the subject and motivated me to better my revision methods effectively and I inculcated MPOA study guide into my revision . This different approach towards the subjects allowed me study smart for my exams and managed to maintain a B3 thoughout Secondary 4 and scored a Grade 3 in my N levels. When I moved from secondary 4 to 5, however, I realised that I had to further improve my learning methods as the gap between secondary 4 to 5 was immense and that’s when I joined Master Principles of Accounts tuition .
My tutor, Caleb helped me tremendously to get a deeper understanding of each topic and clarified my doubts using real life examples . This made concepts easier to grasp and remember. Caleb also exposed me the various types of questions and taught me easier methods to tackle them this was something I wouldn’t have done in school. With his guidance and consistent revision, the transition between N to O levels was much smoother . Caleb‘s fervour and dedication in teaching deepened my interest in POA which made me thrive in the subject I was able to jump to an A2 at the end of my Secondary 5 . With consistent practice and proper guidance anyone can ace POA.
Zachary Chia's Story
Meet one of my other students, who joined me on 1 August 2019.
He was consistently failing and was looking to drop POA when his mom, Mrs Chia, asked him to try out the MPOA classes.
Zachary is intelligent and hardworking, but was not getting the high score he deserves for some reason. We worked together for a month online and in class and he jumped 4 grades from F9 to C5 in a month.
How do my students improve so quickly and painlessly?
While I made some mistakes along the way—especially when I was an undergrad teaching part-time —I’ve now helped so many students that I’ve got the process down to a science. Because what I’ve learned over the years is that it isn’t hard to succeed as a POA student, you just need to know what you’re doing.
That's why I'm excited to tell you about the new program I've created called the
This program teaches you step-by-step how to approach any double entries and ledgers in virtually any class test or national exams — even if you don’t have a lot of time or background and even a fancy math grade. And because the system is designed to eliminate guessing and memorisation, you’ll learn the same secrets I use for helping students score a home run each and every time.
So, let me explain how the MPOA Method works.
As a private tutor who has helped hundreds of exasperated students, I’ve discovered the three essential steps you need to follow if you want to score well in double entries consistently:
These three steps are the exact fundamentals that I use to approach every time we go through a new chapter in class – even the most challenging ones in Sec 4.
It took me 12 years of trial-and-error to develop all the strategies that I reveal in my system, because I wasn’t born knowing this stuff either—I wish.
Instead, I had to figure everything out on the fly and of course, I observe the common mistakes students make along the way—mistakes you’ll be able to avoid, since I warn you about them in the lessons. Once I finally developed a proven, repeatable process students can duplicate, I had to prepare and record them down – and condense them into a solid 120 page study guide to use this system for all 17-20 chapters in the 2014 and 2020 O/N level new syllabuses.
That took many, many months, because I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything. And I haven’t even mentioned yet all the time and money that went into creating and hosting the 100+ videos—in a word, LOTS.
What's Included in the Master POA Basics Class?
Caleb’s claim-to-fame niffy guide is something you will be proud to bring around. Just slightly bigger than A5 size paper, the MPOA Study guide (physical book) can be snugged in a small bag to carry around on your way to met your friends. Students reported that they were scolded in class for reading this ‘story book’ during lesson time when this first came out. But who’s to blame when an accounting study guide is as effective as it is beautiful?
Building foundations require extreme care – so that soil movement from piling does not affect surrounding buildings. That’s why in our Master Principles of Accounts Basics class at Bedok, Kovan and Jurong East – you get the personal attention all the way, clearing all the misconception and memorising you thought you need to succeed.
With the 3 steps to Perfect Double entries, you are well on your way to join an existing class to tackle the challenges of the Sec 4 topics.
Every pixel, table and words in the POA summary sheets are customized – measured and designed for the comfort of the eye to revise in 5 minutes. It’s calling the students to come back to look at it. Over and over again with the handicraft made possible by professional typography artists.
The worksheets and accompanying online portal guarantee success. Detailed walkthroughs and examples are used in our MPOA Basics sessions. Hundreds of hours of video production and user-testings in the classroom was deployed to ensure that the Personalised Student Portal can be used together with the in-class experience, so that you can review it over and over again if you ever need to revisit your basics.
